About the event
It seems that by the time a child is a young adult, they generally lose touch with their imagination, encumbered by the general drawl of human existence. For artists, it is different. They are allowed to let lose, get lost and drive others to their wild domain of creativity.
Gromyko Semper’s Sands of Pactolus are confluences of varied medieval illustrations, of graphic novels, of imagined characters from tales of antiquity, and familiar personalities too – even fellow artists. In this occasion, we present an artist with an imagination beyond feral; in fact an artist who presents works as if they were parts of an epic narrative – pages and pages of chapter artefacts. It is with great pride that I present young artist Gromyko Semper, with his first solo exhibition in Singapore.
Gromyko Semper is a rarity as he is self-taught. He executes works with an amazing level of detail, imbued with layers of symbolism; works are impeccably rendered with icons that connect with a wide swathe of viewers. At age 30, he has already exhibited in several countries abroad – indeed not a small feat in this competitive art world. The Sands of Pactolus collection not only offers a preview of Semper’s fantastical works; more importantly, the collection offers the viewer an insight to understanding the complexity of concept, dreams and imagination – that particularly of Gromyko Semper’s weird and wonderful realm.
